Lodge

Barlovento Cabaña Maloka sits on the edge of Tayrona Park, at the river mouth of the sacred Río Piedras, a notorious surfing paradise known as Playa Los Naranjos. A sixty-minute drive from Simón Bolívar International Airport (SMR), on the northwestern corner of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the largest coastal mountain range in the planet – considered by the ancestral communities to be the earth’s birthplace; Finca Barlovento has been described by Lonely Planet as the best place to relax in all of Colombia.

Barlovento is the perfect getaway from the daily grinding of modern urban life, as unique in its natural settings as in its man-made features, the exact opposite of a standard hospitality industry experience. Instead of flat screens, hot water, or room service, we offer spaces for contemplation within a natural sanctuary, generous communal areas and some of the best views in nature.

The lodging facilities Cabaña & Maloka are built as ecohabs, ecologically–minded constructions using local timber and traditional techniques like thatched roofs. The oldest one, Cabaña, was built in 1975 by award-winning architect Simón Vélez. It faces the Caribbean shore, dotted by the massive, millennial rocks plunging into the waters, an iconic feature of the fifteen thousand hectares of Colombian coast known as Tayrona Park. Maloka is comprised of eco-friendly constructions styled after the communal houses of indigenous tribes, with thatched roofs, ample rooms and plenty of gorgeous portraits of the marsh by the river mouth and the magic mountain beyond. The amenities include a wonderful pool, sun-bathing terraces, a spa and the charming Sierra Bar.
