Maloka is the common dwelling for certain ancestral communities in South America. Maloka Barlovento consists of a large thatched rooftop house which provides comfort, shade, protection from the elements and a sense of togetherness and support. Built in 2013 by local artisans with materials found in the region, Maloka is an ecohab with views to Tayrona National Park (Parque Tayrona), the Piedras River, and Los Naranjos beach, in the midst of gardens filled with lush native vegetation. Rooms are ample and have private bathrooms. This part of the complex features generous communal space with hammocks and a deck for sunbathing.
Its construction is in tune with the character of the location; a refuge in the wilderness of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Maloka has seven standard rooms and four suites. The standard rooms are located at Maloka’s second level (three with ocean and river views, four facing the gardens and the mountain). The suites are located twenty meters from Maloka in front of the river at a garden level.
Maloka is the complex main house. In it, you will find common areas (dining room, living room, hammocks) and large wooden decks where guests of both Cabaña and Maloka can enjoy the view during breakfast and dinner. This is an ideal setting to watch the sunset sipping a nice drink prepared by our experienced barman. Guests are also welcome to take a short stroll to the Sierra Bar which overlooks the river meadow on one end and the surfers riding the waves on the other.
